See the Only True Copy of the Declaration of Independence During Restoring Freedom's Liberty Fest Weekend

WILKES-BARRE, PA--(Marketwire - Apr 16, 2012) - One of only two known true copies of the Declaration of Independence will be on display by Heritage Collectors' Society during the Restoring Freedom Liberty Fest Weekend set for April 20 and 21, 2012 at Wilkes-Barre's F.M. Kirby Center. The public has this rare opportunity to view the Declaration as it might have looked in 1776.

Rescued from obscurity by America's History Detective, Tom Lingenfelter of Doylestown, PA, the anastatic facsimile copy of the Declaration of Independence has been authenticated as the only true likeness of the engrossed (handwritten) original 1776 Declaration and is the most faithful and perfect copy in existence.

Learn more about Lingenfelter's Declaration here:

Lingenfelter's Declaration is one of two direct and original copies of the 1776 Declaration known to exist. Since further copies are impossible, the importance of this copy is enormous. Robert Lucas, historical document consultant said of Lingenfelter's Declaration, "This is a truly significant, historic find, especially since no one knew it even existed. It answers the mystery of what happened to the original Declaration, America's National Treasure and certainly deserves to be described as priceless -- far more than any $80 million painting."

Lingenfelter's research led to the realization by the archivist of Independence National Park, that they were in possession of the only other known anastatic Declaration, which was acquired in 1846 and subsequently relegated to storage.

"Lingenfelter's extraordinary discovery is a terrific story. These priceless and rare examples are the only direct copies of the original 1776 Declaration ever made, and the fact that the resultant damage to the original made another copy impossible amplifies its importance. The detective work involved in tracing the significance of the obscure, shortlived anastatic technique that made this faithful duplication possible enriches the story of this national treasure," said American historian Jeffrey Ryan, Ph.D.

The Restoring Freedoms Liberty Fest Weekend will bring together diverse groups with one goal -- finding common ground and returning to the principles that made our America great. Along with Lingenfelter's Declaration of Independence exhibit, featured speakers will include Garry Johnson and Rupert Boneham, and a number of political speakers of all political stripes. A full list of speakers can be found at Recording artists, Krista Branch, Joseph Haigh, and other local talent will be on hand.
