SEIU Canada-Media Advisory: Home Care Professionals to Meet the Hon. John Milloy About Crisis in Home Care

KITCHENER, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 5, 2009) - Home care workers, members of Service Employees International Union, will meet with the Hon. John Milloy, Kitchener Centre, March 6th at 10:30 am to discuss urgent reforms needed to fix the broken home care system. Collective bargaining between 3,500 home care workers and their employer Red Cross has broken down on Tuesday. Action by the McGuinty government can prevent a strike that could affect 40,000 home care clients.

At issue for Red Cross home care workers is unpaid travel time.

The meeting, part of a campaign aptly named Running On Empty, will underscore the problems faced by families of those in need of home care and home care workers in Kitchener and across Ontario.

Date: March 6th, 2009
