SEIU Looks Forward to a Cooperative Relationship With the New Saskatchewan Government

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Nov. 8, 2007) - SEIU is anticipating a respectful and co-operative relationship with the Saskatchewan Party government. SEIU will continue to call upon the government of the day to work in partnership improving the lives of our members and their communities.

"The health care system in Saskatchewan continues to be a priority for our members and their families. This election saw a spirited debate regarding the future direction of the province. We hope to work constructively with premier elect Brad Wall to ensure that hard fought gains are not lost, and improvements continue." said SEIU Local 336 President, Janice Platzke.

"SEIU raised the issues of recruitment and retention in the field of health care, assistance for those struggling with rising drug costs and a government that stands on the side of all front line health care workers. SEIU supports publicly funded, publicly administered and publicly delivered health care. This will continue to be our priority. We will continue to raise issues important to our members and their families." said SEIU Local 299 President, Barbara Cape.

Shelly Banks, Vice-President of Local 333 states: "The task of moving the province forward requires labour and government to work together to ensure all members of society benefit from Saskatchewan's booming economy."

"Healthcare workers across this country continue to defend the principal of universal health coverage. Saskatchewan has a special place in the history of that struggle. We are watching closely to see that the province continues to move in the right direction" said SEIU's Canadian President, Sharleen Stewart.

The Service Employees International Union is the largest and fastest growing union in North America, with 98,000 workers in Canada and 1.8 million workers worldwide.
