Seizure of an Unauthorized Substance at Archambault Institution


STE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 17, 2012) - At approximately 1:25 p.m. on October 13, 2012, correctional officers intercepted an inmate who was attempting to introduce an unauthorized substance into Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary located in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines.

Upon inspection, a total of 260 grams of tobacco was seized. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is $4,320.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substances from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
