Seizure of Contraband and Unauthorized Items at La Macaza Institution

LAVAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - July 10, 2014) - Correctional Service Canada

On July 07^th, 2014 at about 5:50 a.m., a package containing 148 grams of tobacco and 1 gram of cannabis was found between the fences at La Macaza Institution a medium level security federal institution.

This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of correctional officers. The total institutional value of this seizure is estimated at $5500.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
