Seizure of Contraband and Unauthorized Items at the Regional Reception Centre

On June 7, 2016 at about 8:45 a.m., correctional officers at the Regional Reception Centre, a multi-level security federal penitentiary in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, intercepted an inmate who was attempting to bring contraband and unauthorized items into the institution.

This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of correctional officers, the detector dog team and security intelligence officers. The items seized included 12.6 grams of tobacco, 2.5 grams of hashish, 51.1 grams of marijuana and 60 blotting papers. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $7,592.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
