Seizure of Unauthorized Substance at Drummond Institution


DRUMMONDVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 24, 2012) - On December 20, as a result of the vigilance of correctional staff, a package containing 307 grams of tobacco was seized at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary. The contents of the package have an approximate institutional value of $ 4,912.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
