LA MACAZA, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - June 13, 2012) - At approximately 11:20 a.m., on June 11, 2012, as a result of the vigilance of correctional staff at La Macaza Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary located in La Macaza, objects with suspicious content were recovered on the perimeter of the institution.
Upon inspection, a total of 300 grams of tobacco was concealed in the objects. The estimated institutional value of the contraband seized is $6,000.
CSC imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.
CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substance from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
