Seizure of Unauthorized Substance at Leclerc Institution


LAVAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - July 11, 2012) - At approximately 6:15 p.m. on July 6, 2012, correctional officers intercepted an inmate who was attempting to introduce unauthorized substances into Leclerc Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary located in Laval.

Upon inspection, a total of 388 grams of tobacco was seized. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is $6,208.

CSC imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substance from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
