Seizure of Unauthorized Substances at Drummond Institution


DRUMMONDVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 25, 2013) - On April 24, 2013, correctional officers intercepted an inmate who was attempting to introduce unauthorized substances into Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary.

Upon inspection, a total of 174 grams of tobacco was seized. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is $2,784.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substances from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
