Senator John Warner Joins Aurora Flight Sciences Board

MANASSAS, VA--(Marketwire - March 15, 2010) -  Aurora Flight Sciences announced today that former U.S. Senator John W. Warner has joined the Aurora Board of Directors.

Warner was first elected as United States Senator from Virginia in 1978, and went on to serve for five consecutive terms, becoming the second longest serving Senator in the Commonwealth's history. He retired from public service in 2009.

Senator Warner was a widely recognized leader on national security issues in the United States Senate. He was a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services from 1979 through 2009, and served as Chairman three times. He also served on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Senator Warner championed the development of unmanned vehicles. As a primary author of the Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (PL 106-398), Senator Warner drafted the legislation requiring the "goal of the Armed Forces to achieve the fielding of unmanned, remotely controlled technology such that by 2010, one-third of the aircraft in the operational deep strike force aircraft fleet are unmanned."

Senator John Warner began his distinguished career of public service in 1945 when he enlisted at the age of 17 in the US Navy during World War II. In 1950, he volunteered for active duty in the US Marine Corps, serving in Korea with the First Marine Air Wing. He graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1953. In 1969, Warner became Under Secretary of the Navy. He became the 61st Secretary of the Navy in 1972.

Since his retirement from the Senate, Warner has served as a partner at Hogan & Hartson LLP in Washington, DC.

"John Warner was viewed in the Senate as a true statesman" said Aurora President John Langford in announcing Warner's joining the Aurora Board. "He was known as one who transcends politics and crosses the aisle to forge bipartisan solidarity on issues relating to national security. We are proud to have him advising us and joining our directors as we forge ahead with Aurora's development."
