Senator Mike Lee Is Featured on AJC Radio's Spotlight on Capitol Hill... Where A Just Cause Puts the Spotlight on Members of Congress and Their Legislation

Spotlight on Capitol Hill Gives Listeners an In-Depth Look at Initiatives and the Legislative Agendas of Our Elected Officials in Washington, D.C., Says Advocacy Group, A Just Cause

DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - September 29, 2015) - Advocacy group, A Just Cause, announces today that the Thursday, October 1, 2015 segment of AJC Radio's, "Spotlight on Capitol Hill" will be shining the spotlight on U.S. Senator Mike Lee (, 8-10 PM ET).

"'Spotlight on Capitol Hill' has gained momentum as we continue to bring our listening audience information about the excellent work being done by members of both the House and the Senate. Everyone on Capitol Hill is talking about AJC Radio's segment, Spotlight on Capitol Hill," says Lamont Banks, A Just Cause Executive Director. "We've done spotlights on notable members of the House and Senate including: Congressman Charles Rangel (D - NY), Senator Charles Schumer (D - NY), Congressman Cedric Richmond (D - LA), Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D - NY), Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D - CA), Senator Orrin Hatch (R - UT), Congresswoman Judy Chu (D - CA), Congressman GK Butterfield (D - NC), Senator Patrick Leahy (D - VT), Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R - WI). "We do everything within our power to share as much information as possible about the members of Congress, granted we may not have the opportunity to always bring our listeners a live one-on-one interview," adds Banks. "Spotlight on Capital Hills brings a different perspective to the heart of Americans, and illustrates that many of our elected officials are concerned about the future of our country and legislation impacting the American people," concludes Banks.

"This week we have chosen to shine the spotlight on Senator Mike Lee of Utah, who was elected in 2010 as Utah's 16th Senator," Banks explains. "AJC Radio will recognize his pursuit of economic security and defending the Constitution," says Banks.

Senator Lee authored An Agenda for Our Time, where he stated, "In my view the greatest domestic challenge of our generation is America's large and growing Opportunity Deficit. This opportunity crisis presents itself in three principal ways: immobility among the poor, trapped in poverty; insecurity in the middle class, where families just can't seem to get ahead; and cronyist privilege at the top, where political and economic elites twist policy to unfairly profit at everyone else's expense"

The Atlantic credited Senator Lee in a 2013 article suggesting, "Senator Lee's proposal is only one step in the right direction. But what's particularly encouraging about his proposal is that it would lift the sagging economic fortunes of many working-class families by targeting their payroll taxes. Let's hope more Republicans (and Democrats) take a page from Lee's playbook and seek policies that renew the flagging economic fortunes of family life in all too many of our nation's poor and working class communities." (

Senator Mike Lee serves in the 114th Congress, beginning his tenure as Chairman of the Senate Steering Committee and currently serves on the on the Armed Services Committee, Joint Economic Committee, Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and oversees issues critical to Utah as the Chairman of the Water and Power.

In another excerpt from An Agenda for Our Time, Senator Lee states, "Freedom doesn't divide us. Big government does. It's big government that turns citizens into supplicants, capitalists into cronies, and cooperative communities into competing special interests. Freedom, by contrast, unites us. It pulls us together, and aligns our interests. It draws us out of ourselves and into the lives of our friends, neighbors, and even perfect strangers. It draws us upward, toward the best version of ourselves."

Senator Lee along with colleagues of both the Republican and Democratic parties addressed over-criminalization, over-incarceration, and over-sentencing in America with President Obama in a bipartisan meeting at the White House in February 2015. "Reforming our criminal justice system was the focus, which is right in line with the initiatives of A Just Cause," says Banks.

AJC Radio will spotlight Bills/Resolutions sponsored or co-sponsored by Senator Lee including, but not limited to legislation regarding our economy, national security, religious freedom, crime, and education.

"We make every effort to get the members of Congress to call in and speak to the initiatives we are discussing, but as everyone knows, their schedules can be very hectic. The spotlights have become a great opportunity for the listeners to tune in every week, and get information about elected officials from coast to coast. You never know what surprise guest might be on the air," Banks concludes.
