Senators Acquire Left Winger Oleg Saprykin and a Seventh-Round Pick in 2007 from Phoenix in Exchange for Ottawa's Second-Round Pick in 2008

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 27, 2007) - The Ottawa Senators today acquired left winger Oleg Saprykin and a seventh-round pick in 2007 from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Ottawa's second-round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Saprykin, 26, was second in team scoring with 14 goals and a team-leading 20 assists in 59 games with Phoenix. He was also a team-best +8 on the season as has established career highs in goals, assists and points.

Saprykin has played 313 career NHL games over parts of eight seasons between Phoenix and the Calgary Flames. The Moscow native has recorded 54 career goals, 81 assists, 135 points and 236 penalty minutes.

Saprykin also skated in 26 career playoff games with Calgary as the Flames made their run to the Stanley Cup final in 2004. He tallied three goals and three assists in post-season play, and scored the overtime goal against Tampa Bay in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final on June 3, 2004 (3-2 win).

In international play, Saprykin represented Russia at the 2003 World Championships in Finland. He recorded one goal and three assists in seven games as Russia lost in the quarterfinals to the Czech Republic.

Saprykin was Calgary's first-round choice (11th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
