Senators Assign forward Alexander Nikulin To AHL's Binghamton

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 27, 2007) - The Ottawa Senators today assigned centre Alexander Nikulin to the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

In his first two career NHL games with the Senators this season, the 22-year-old was held off the scoresheet in both the 6-5 shootout loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 22 and the 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers on Nov. 24.

Nikulin was called up to Ottawa on Nov. 22, replacing Randy Robitaille (hand) against the Penguins and Daniel Alfredsson against the Flyers. At the time, he was second in team scoring with three goals and seven assists in 14 games with Binghamton this season

Binghamton is tied for third place in the AHL's East Division with 20 points from nine wins, eight losses and two overtime losses. The club's next game is Wednesday, Nov. 28, against the Bears in Hershey, Penn.

The 6-1, 198-pound centre played his last three seasons with CSKA of the Russian elite league, seeing his best season in 2005-06 when had 21 points (10-11) in 51 games. He recorded a goal and an assist in six games at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship for Team Russia, who lost to Canada in the gold-medal game.

Nikulin was Ottawa's fourth-round pick, 122nd overall, in the 2004 NHL entry draft.
