Senators forward Chris Neil and wife Caitlin ask Sens fans to support the walk, roll and run for Roger's House

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 31, 2013) - The Sens Foundation announced today its plans for the 10th annual Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House presented by the Ottawa Citizen, which will be held on Sunday, June 16, at Scotiabank Place. Senators forward Chris Neil and his wife Caitlin, the honourary chairs of Roger's House, will participate in the event and are encouraging Sens fans to take part in the day's activities or pledge support for them.

"It's so inspiring to visit the children and families at the House. Understanding the challenges they face every day and how they perservere is incredible," said Caitlin. "Our community is very fortunate to have a facility like Roger's House that these families can turn to for support when they need it most."

The Neils helped introduce six Roger's House patients who will take part in the fundraising event during today's launch. Known as Roger's Dream Team, the six children all use the facility regularly for respite, pain and symptom management and when transitioning from the hospital to home after a prolonged hospitalization. These children, their families, the Neils and major corporate sponsors, including Scotiabank, the Ottawa Citizen, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Rideau Centre, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Coke, Mattamy Homes, Waste Management and media sponsors MAJIC 100 and EMC - Your Community Newspaper will lead the charge to make this year's event a success.

"As a local business it's our corporate responsibility to give back in order to create a better place to live and work," said Jeff Darwin, vice-president, Scotiabank. "Supporting the children and families of Roger's House is something staff members at all our branches across the region are incredibly passionate about."

Roger's House counts on community support and the Sens Foundation, which directs funds to ensure an enhanced level of care is available to families across the region. The Sens Foundation will provide Roger's House with about 25 per cent of annual operating budget this year, plus additional funding for capital expenditures, service to Quebec families and contributions to two endowments.

Members of the community can support the event by registering and collecting pledges or by sponsoring Chris and Caitlin Neil at www.sensfoundation.com.

This year's 10th anniversary event features a Tot-Trot, the PwC 2km and 5km route and the Enterprise Family Fun Zone, which includes Sens Street Tour activities, balloon artists, face painters, live entertainment, a barbecue lunch and much more, Spartacat, the Senators' ambassador of fun, also returns this year. Families are encouraged to make this part of their Father's Day celebrations.

Roger's House, now in its seventh year of operation, has had more than 2,200 admissions from across Ontario and western Quebec. The welcoming home-away-from-home atmosphere comforts children with life-limiting illnesses and their families who are admitted to the state-of-the-art, eight-bedroom facility, where dedicated professionals and volunteers provide compassionate care and support.
