Senators owner calls on fans to donate to Tickets for Kids program Melnyk gives 400 world junior championship tickets to city youth

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 11, 2008) - Eugene Melnyk, Ottawa Senators owner and chair of the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship steering committee, is calling on package holders to donate tickets to the Tickets for Kids program. To date, 3,000 tickets have been donated to the program. Melnyk is donating 400 tickets to the underprivileged children invited to participate in the fifth annual Melnyk Family Skate for Kids on Sunday, Dec. 21, at SBP Arena.

Tickets for Kids lets purchasers, who are unable to use all their tickets for games, to donate them for use by local minor hockey teams and children's charities. Donated tickets can be dropped off at Gate 2 reception on lower level of SBP Arena or mailed to: Attention: Tickets for Kids program, 1000 Palladium Drive, Kanata, Ont., K2V 1A5.

"The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship will mark a new milestone in Ottawa's history as the largest sporting event to ever be hosted by our great city," said Melnyk. "With such an historic event, it is important our community makes every effort to ensure those less fortunate also have the opportunity to share in the thrill and excitement of the world juniors. So, today I'm asking all package holders to help make dreams a reality by donating their unused tickets to the Tickets for Kids program."

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY - Friday, Dec. 12, at noon: 1993 gold medalist and current Senator Dean McAmmond and event general manager Bob O'Doherty will join representatives from the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa, Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa, Les Grands Freres et Grandes Soeurs de l'Outaouais, Champions for Children, Christie Lake Kids, Children and Youth Friendly Ottawa (CAYFO) and minor hockey players for a photo opportunity promoting the Tickets for Kids program at 12:30 p.m., SBP Arena, near Team Canada's dressing rooms at lower Gate 3.
