Senators set to expand 4-on-4 Spring Youth League

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 15, 2011) - In conjunction with the Ottawa Senators and the Bell Sensplex, the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland will become a new home for the Senators' 4-on-4 Spring Youth League beginning in April 2012. Founded in 2005, the Spring League, which runs through the months of April May and June, was designed to provide children and youth from the ages of 5 to 17 with a fun and safe environment to hone their skills in the absence of coaching, faceoffs and body contact.

Last year, the Spring League welcomed more than 1,300 boys and girls from across the Ottawa region, western Quebec and New York state. The addition of a new facility for the league will result in greater accessibility for young hockey players in these three areas.

"After witnessing the CIH Academy in action during a Senators practice last month, we are certain that it will provide an exceptional facility for the expansion of the Senators 4-on-4 Hockey League," said Senators president Cyril Leeder. "The Senators 4-on-4 program is the best of its kind anywhere in Canada. It provides players throughout Hockey Country with the opportunity to play 'continuous whistle-free hockey' in an unstructured environment. We have done everything we can to help recreate a game of pond hockey in an arena setting."

The league, which will be sanctioned for the first time by the Ottawa District Hockey Association and Hockey Canada, is open to players of all skill levels and will accept registrations beginning Monday, Dec. 19 at
