Senators Sign Defenceman Geoff Kinrade to a One-Year Contract

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 10, 2009) - The Ottawa Senators announced today they have signed free-agent defenceman Geoff Kinrade to a one-year, two-way contract. He was one of 32 prospects to attend the Senators 2009 development camp, which concluded earlier this week.

Kinrade, 23, made his NHL debut on April 9 as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning in a home game against Washington. He was held scoreless while logging 17:32 of ice time and recording two blocked shots, one shot on goal and one hit. It was his only NHL appearance to date. Kinrade signed an amateur tryout contract with the American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals on March 20 and went on to play 10 games with the Lightning's primary affiliate while registering one goal, three assists and 12 penalty minutes.

Prior to making his professional debut with Norfolk, the 6-0, 207-pound defenceman played four U.S. college seasons with the Michigan Tech Huskies of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association from 2005-06 through 2008-09. In 150 career games with the Huskies, Kinrade recorded 14 goals, 47 assists and 124 penalty minutes. He led all Michigan Tech defencemen with 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) in his junior season.

A native of Nelson, B.C., Kinrade played two seasons with the British Columbia Hockey League's Cowichan Valley Capitals from 2003-04 to 2004-05 before beginning his collegiate career at MTU.
