Senators to host 7th Annual Canadian Forces Appreciation Night on Saturday, Oct. 30

Mayors of Petawawa, Pembroke, challenge local businesses to support the troops

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 1, 2010) - Eugene Melnyk, owner of the Ottawa Senators and Scotiabank Place, announced today that for the seventh consecutive season since taking ownership of the club, the Senators will dedicate a game to recognize the Canadian Forces on Saturday, Oct. 30, when the Boston Bruins visit Scotiabank Place.

As part of this year's Canadian Forces Appreciation Night, the mayor of Pembroke, Ed Jacyno, and the mayor of Petawawa, Bob Sweet, have teamed with the Senators to challenge local businesses to support the forces on this night. Beginning today, for each ticket purchased by an area business for the game on Oct. 30, the Senators will match the sale and donate two tickets to a Canadian Forces member to attend the game.

"Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators take great pride each season in taking the opportunity to pay tribute to the Canadian Forces," said Cyril Leeder, Ottawa Senators president. "This year, we're challenging local businesses to match our commitment to the men and women of the forces by purchasing tickets, which we hope will allow for a record number of troops to be able to attend the game."

"We are issuing a challenge to all businesses and individuals within the City of Pembroke, Town of Petawawa and surrounding communities," said Jacyno. "The Canadian Forces stationed at CFB Petawawa are our neighbours, friends and relatives. They stand in front of us, protecting us and our way of life. Let us now stand up for them and give them a small token of our appreciation for all that they do."

"As the community with the largest military base in Ontario, this is an opportunity for local businesses and individuals to step up and recognize the Canadian Forces members and the many contributions they are making on our behalf," said Sweet. "We ask that you show your support to prove just how generous the individuals and businesses from the Petawawa area can be."

In preparation for their regular-season home opener on Friday, Oct. 8, versus Buffalo, the Senators will practise at the Silver Dart Arena, CFB Petawawa, on Monday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. Prior to the practice, the team will meet with and sign autographs for members of CFB Petawawa Garrison.
