Senior Citizens at the Gladys B. Jacobs Manor Receive Services Information and Election Data From Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown

Original Richard Allen, Inc. Serves as Host for 22nd Annual Senior Citizens Luncheon

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwired - October 31, 2014) - Philadelphia City Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown delivered the keynote address to more than 100 senior citizens, along with their family members, friends and caretakers, at the recent 22nd Annual Senior Citizen Luncheon, hosted by the Original Richard Allen Committee, Inc. (ORAC). The event was held at the Gladys B. Jacobs Manor, a Philadelphia Housing Authority development for the elderly.

The Councilwoman discussed topics such as voter ID laws, mid-term election candidates and voter registration. "Everyone's role is essential in this year's election. My goal is to reach out to the community, and notify them, first hand, of the importance of voter turnout, and its impact on issues that directly affect our city's senior population," said Councilwoman Reynolds Brown.

Third District Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, former resident of the Richard Allen housing development and a long-time supporter of ORAC, was also in attendance.

"Each year, our goal is to ignite conversations among the residents of Gladys B. Jacobs Manor by providing relatable topics that affect their families, friends and communities," said Muhammad Adil, President, ORAC. "Members of the senior population, both locally and nationwide, are oftentimes neglected and forgotten. We host this event, and invite notable Philadelphians, like the Councilwoman, each year, to show this viable community our support, and to provide a forum for their issues to be voiced and for their concerns to be heard."

The Original Richard Allen Committee, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was founded 24 years ago by a small group of former residents of the Richard Allen housing development, located between 9th and 12th streets and between Fairmount Avenue and Poplar Streets, in North Central Philadelphia.
