Senior Discount Website Offers Coast-to-Coast Savings for Boomers

Discount Database Gives Senior Citizens in San Diego and Boston Collected Information on Deals

ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwire - Aug 1, 2011) - Sciddy.com, the recently launched senior citizen discount site, now offers a way for seniors in San Diego and Boston to discover discounts that are available in their community.

The project started by collecting over 300 widely available franchise discounts. Although Sciddy already provides 260,000 discounts nationwide, the company now has representatives calling businesses in the San Diego and Boston metro areas.

The site's mission is to recognize seniors -- the largest, most viable buying group in America -- and the active lifestyles and well-defined tastes they enjoy. Businesses continue to customize their plans to recognize seniors, who possess tremendous purchasing power with heightened discretionary spending. San Diego and Boston continue to be a major market for senior discounts -- about 10.5 percent of San Diego's roughly 1.26 million and about 10.4 percent of Boston's roughly 590,000 are age 65 and over, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

"Senior discounts have typically been difficult to find on the Internet but represent significant savings over the period of months and years," said Steve Mitchener, president of Dirxion LLC, which is the owner and operator of Sciddy. "We spend money every day at restaurants, theaters, on household goods and simply forget to ask for a senior discount. Sciddy will help seniors save money by creating awareness around discounts they are often unaware of even having."

Since Sciddy's launch on April 25, 2011, the website has had 375,000 visitors and 2.8 million page views. The average user spends six minutes on the site and reviews about seven discounts.

Listed on the site are businesses in a variety of industries (e.g., food, entertainment and travel) that offer discounts to people age 50 and over. This week, the company will be posting a 1-million-discount, 500-city goal on its homepage, a process that involves adding discounts daily by calling businesses throughout the country.

Sciddy strives to provide the most complete, accurate and up-to-date database of senior discounts for goods and services, but the company has also added entertainment to their site by creating "Sciddy Games," an area where anyone can test their knowledge and try to defeat their friends' high scores in games like Mah Jong, Fishing Fun and Swap a Smiley. Other games such as Word Search, Sudoku and Hangman will be available in the near future.

Every service Sciddy provides is free. Visitors are encouraged to submit any discount(s) they have found that are not already listed on Sciddy.com. Businesses in San Diego and Boston can even contribute their own discount(s) to the site to be found by potential customers. Sciddy is also on both Facebook and Twitter, where more discounts and suggestions can be submitted.
