Sens Foundation Telethon for Roger's House Raises $851,293

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 5, 2009) - The Sens Foundation is pleased to announce its Roger's House Telethon presented by The OutCare Foundation received $851,293 in monetary support Tuesday night. The amount is a combination of donations received during the telethon through phone and online pledges and in-game contributions, and cheques presented through fundraising by various organizations over the last calendar year.

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk offered a special prize to anyone donating to Roger's House during the evening. The names of all the donors during the telethon would be placed in a draw for four tickets in the owner's suite during a Senators game.

The telethon was held in conjunction with Rogers Sportsnet's broadcast of the Ottawa Senators and Calgary Flames game Tuesday evening, with Rob Faulds of Sportsnet and Leanne Cusack of CTV Ottawa serving as hosts for the evening.

Roger's House, the charity of choice of the Sens Foundation, provides a comprehensive pediatric respite and palliative care program with elements of outreach, residential hospice, pain and symptom management; grief and bereavement counselling, and research. Since opening its doors in May 2006, Roger's House has had more than 600 admissions. Children and youth are invited to come to Roger's House for support, care and assessment by the specialized team of medical professionals. Immediate family can stay in the facility to receive support and education, with the goal of the of fostering quality of family life.
