Sensory Networks Delivers Acceleration Solution for SpamAssassin™ Antispam Security Application

NodalCore® Technology Boosts SpamAssassin Performance Up to 500 Times and Scans Up to 1.6 Million Email Messages per Hour

LAS VEGAS, NV -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 2, 2006 -- INTEROP CONFERENCE -- Sensory Networks, the leader in acceleration technology for network security applications, today announced NodalCore acceleration for Apache SpamAssassin, an industry-leading open-source spam filter. Sensory boosts SpamAssassin's performance up to 500 times, scanning up to 1.6 million email messages per hour.

Run by the non-profit Apache Software Foundation, SpamAssassin is one of the security industry's main spam-filters used by businesses and individuals worldwide. The Sensory solution drops invisibly into existing SpamAssassin installations and instantly boosts performance by up to 500 times -- no integration work is required. An appliance running NodalCore accelerated SpamAssassin can scan up to 1.6 million email messages an hour. To take advantage of these performance gains, security appliance vendors using SpamAssassin can simply install a PCI card and packages from Sensory Networks.

"Email spam is becoming a bigger problem and often tied to phishing scams, so it is important to provide an effective solution that can keep up with more sophisticated threats," said Justin Mason, creator of SpamAssassin and project management committee member for Apache's SpamAssassin project. "With NodalCore-accelerated SpamAssassin, security appliance vendors can now deliver an effective antispam solution without slowing down performance or experiencing any system interruptions."

NodalCore-accelerated SpamAssassin can support up to 10 million entries with Sensory's C-2000 card, a capacity unmatched in the industry today. Standard spam-filtering performance degrades as rules are added -- unlike the NodalCore solution where performance increases with additional rules. In the Sensory solution, all rules are evaluated at the same time, making it more likely that an email message will trigger a rule and the message will be quickly classified as spam. The patent-pending algorithms used in NodalCore accelerated SpamAssassin turn this classic spam-filtering weakness into a strength.

"No one likes spam and it is a security issue that organizations and individuals deal with daily. However all antispam solutions have the same challenge: more filtering rules equals greater accuracy but slower performance," said Sab Gosal, VP of marketing at Sensory Networks. "By accelerating SpamAssassin with Sensory's NodalCore technology, security appliance vendors can deliver high-performance, accurate anti-spam filtering to their customers. No other vendor can provide an easier, faster or more effective acceleration solution for SpamAssassin."
