Sensr.net Secures $1.5 Million Funding From Spark Capital and Strategic Seed Investors

INCLINE VILLAGE, NV--(Marketwire - January 26, 2011) - Sensr.net, a pioneer in cloud based video monitoring, today announced that it has secured $1.5 million financing led by Spark Capital, with participation from Charles River Ventures and strategic angel investors. Using scalable cloud computing infrastructure, Sensr.net enables anyone to set up and remotely monitor network cameras over the internet using a browser. Sensr.net continuously monitors and archives users' cameras, detecting suspicious or unusual activity. If activity is detected, Sensr.net notifies users instantly via text message or email. Sensr.net makes it easy to create videos of interesting moments and share them with friends via the sensr.net website as well as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other social networking sites.

"We are empowering consumers to 'watch their stuff' from anywhere in the world with a simple network camera," said Adam Beguelin, PhD, CEO of Sensr.net. "It's no secret that professional video surveillance equipment is very expensive. Our goal is to enable the average consumer to have a sense of security and control that a video monitoring service provides, without a high cost. Do you want to know when the cable guy finally showed up? Point a camera out the front door and we'll catch his arrival and departure. Heading out of town for the weekend? Leave your camera pointed at the front door. If someone comes in, we'll text you. You can also share your cameras with your friends or the whole world. Sensr.net is about security, but also socializing your network camera."

"We see a tremendous potential in Sensr," said Santo Politi, general partner at Spark Capital. "As the video monitoring service market continues to explode, there is a clear need for an efficient and inexpensive video monitoring offer with a social component. Adam and his team have already achieved impressive early user traction with their beta version. We see a huge growth opportunity as people discover how they can use Sensr to meet all kinds of needs -- both fun and practical."

"The mix of video monitoring and social networking is a new and exciting angle," said Bill Tai, general partner at Charles River Ventures. "Adam and his seasoned team are poised to tap into that need better than any other player entering the market."

Prior to founding Sensr.net, Adam Beguelin founded Truveo, a search engine for Web video in 2004, acquired by AOL in 2006. After the acquisition, he served as a vice president of AOL Video. Beguelin has a PhD in Computer Science from CU Boulder and previously held a faculty position in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a founder of CMU Silicon Valley and holds 10 patents.
