Sentence in R. v. Ahmed


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 23, 2014) - Misbahuddin Ahmed, 30, was sentenced today in Ontario Superior Court to 12 years in prison. On July 11, 2014, a jury found Misbahuddin Ahmed guilty of conspiring to facilitate a terrorist activity, contrary to section 83.19 of the Criminal Code, and participating in the activities of a terrorist group contrary to s. 83.18.

He was found not guilty of making or having in his possession an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property, for the benefit of a terrorist group, contrary to section 83.2 of the Criminal Code.

The parties have 30 days to decide whether or not they will appeal the sentence.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada is responsible for prosecuting offences under federal jurisdiction in a manner that is free of any improper influence and that respects the public interest. The PPSC is also responsible for providing prosecution-related advice to law enforcement agencies across Canada.
