BRAMPTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 24, 2014) - Mohamed Hassan Hersi, 28, was sentenced today in Ontario Superior Court to two consecutive five-year terms of imprisonment, for a total of 10 years.
He was found guilty on May 30, 2014 of two counts under section 83.18 of the Criminal Code for attempting to participate in the activities of a terrorist group, and for providing counsel to a person to participate in terrorist activity. On June 18, 2014, the Court dismissed three motions alleging abuse of process and confirmed the verdict of guilty.
Mohamed Hersi was arrested on March 29, 2011, at Toronto's Pearson International Airport. He was released on bail on April 29, 2011.
