Last week at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington DC, Serena Software held its 5th annual Federal User Group meeting. Hundreds of government technology professionals, innovators, contractors, partners and system integrators congregated to share tips and best practices and evaluate the many facets of one of the industry's leading Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) technologies for 21st century government.

The theme of this year's meeting was "Orchestrating Your Agency To Do More With Less." Many of Serena's federal customers were on hand to discuss how they have improved release management processes and made business practices more efficient, faster and more stable with Serena's technology.

Highlights of this year's User Group meeting included keynotes from Gartner Research Vice President, Jim Duggan, Serena's President and CEO, John Nugent and the CIO of NETPDTC US Navy, Bill Reynolds. The schedule incorporated 12 breakout sessions, which included topics on Requirements Management, Release Management, SharePoint Productivity, IT Service Management and Value Engineering, led by Serena solution experts and federal agency customers.

A survey conducted at the event revealed that nearly all of Serena's federal customers brought on the technology to standardize methodology and improve and automate processes. The majority of respondents also indicated they are currently using Serena's Development Management and Release Management solutions for improved visibility and responding faster to requests. More than 75 percent of those polled said that Serena's customer support was excellent or higher.

As part of the 2011 Federal User Group meeting, Serena presented awards to the customers that best demonstrate industry leadership in using its technology to achieve innovation excellence. Ken McCurdy of US Navy NETPDTC took home the 2011 Innovation Award; The Composer Award went to Bill Lamberton of the Office of Personnel Management; the Orchestrated ALM Award was given to Sean Gamino of the US Army; Marc Tolbert of US Navy PEO-EIS Sea Warrior Program was selected for The Maestro Award.
