Service Canada Centre for Youth Holds an Employer Appreciation Brunch

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 13, 2008) - Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River, today attended the employer brunch hosted by the Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) in Grande Prairie. The office is available to assist businesses and young workers with their summer employment needs.

"The Government of Canada is committed to helping young people get the skills and knowledge they need to improve their employment opportunities," said Mr. Warkentin. "By working with local employers, we can make sure that young people get valuable summer work experience, and that our community has a strong and vibrant work force for the future."

SCCYs link young people with employers. The Centres provide young people with access to job postings, interview advice, assistance with resume writing, and job-search strategies, and they give employers a location to post notices for job openings. SCCYs also provide valuable information on health and safety in the workplace.

"Whatever the job-big or small, short or long term-we can help you fill it," said Mandee Chohan, Grande Prairie's Program Administrator. "Youth Services Officers are working with local employers daily to assist them in finding qualified summer help."

This year, employers interested in using our services and youth looking for summer employment can visit the Grande Prairie SCCY in person between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, at #8 9845 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie. They can also call the Centre at 780-539-6398 or send a fax to 780-539-9146. Job postings are available online at under "Student Job Search," "Alberta," "Grande Prairie & Area."
