Service Canada Centre for Youth in Red Deer Celebrates Annual BBQ Block Carnival

RED DEER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 11, 2008) - Bob Mills, Member of Parliament for Red Deer, today attended the annual BBQ Block Carnival hosted by the Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) in Red Deer. The office is ready to assist businesses and young workers with their summer employment needs.

"The Government of Canada is committed to helping young people get the skills and knowledge they need to improve their employment opportunities," said Mr. Mills. "By working with local employers, we can make sure that young people get valuable summer work experience, and that our community has a strong and vibrant work force for the future."

SCCYs link young people with employers. The Centres provide young people with access to job postings, interview advice, assistance with resume writing, and job-search strategies, and they give employers a location to post notices for job openings. SCCYs also provide valuable information on health and safety in the workplace.

"Whatever the job-big or small, short or long term-we can help you fill it," said Jennifer Thompson, Red Deer's Youth Services Officer. "In the coming weeks, Youth Services Officers will be contacting local employers to make them aware that our SCCY is ready to assist them in any way it can."

This year, employers interested in using our services and youth looking for summer employment can visit the Red Deer SCCY in person between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, on the second floor of 4911 51st Street. They can also call the Centre at 403-340-4250 or send a fax to 780-309-4949. Job postings are available online at www.jobbank.gc.ca under "Student Job Search," "Alberta," "Red Deer and Area."
