Service Canada Centre for Youth in Stettler Celebrates Grand Opening

STETTLER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 9, 2008) - Kevin Sorenson, Member of Parliament for Crowfoot, today participated in the grand opening barbecue for the Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) in Stettler. The office is ready to help businesses and young workers with their summer employment needs.

"The Government of Canada is committed to helping young people acquire the skills and knowledge they need to improve their employment opportunities," said Mr. Sorenson. "By working with local employers, we can make sure that young people get valuable summer work experience, and that our community has a strong and vibrant work force for the future."

Service Canada Centres for Youth link youth and employers. Through SCCYs, young people have access to job postings, interview advice, and resume building and job search strategies, while employers have a location to post job openings. SCCYs also provide valuable information on health and safety in the workplace.

"Whatever the job-big or small, short or long term-we can help you fill it," said Kaileigh Campbell, Lead Youth Services Officer in Stettler. "In the coming weeks, youth services officers will be contacting local employers to make them aware that our SCCY is now open and ready to assist them in any way it can."

Employers and youth interested in using the services of the Stettler SCCY can visit the centre at 4720-50 Street (open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), call 403-742-6950, fax 403-742-1391, or e-mail stlrsccy@telus.net. Job postings are available online at www.jobbank.gc.ca., under "Student/Youth Job Search," "Alberta," "Red Deer and Area," and then "Stettler."
