Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Plexus and Progress Energy Named Award Finalists

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - May 24, 2010) -, the developer of modern IT service management SaaS, today announced Plexus Corp. as the winner of the 2010 Innovation of the Year award, sponsored by CompuCom. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Progress Energy are recognized as finalists.

Dozens of nominations for this award were submitted by the user community. A panel of developers and executives selected three finalists from IT organizations nominated for doing something innovative with the platform as a service (PaaS).

Winner -- Plexus -- IT asset loaner reservation and tracking application
The Plexus IT organization required an IT asset loaner reservation and tracking system after struggling to track loaner laptops, phones, aircards, projectors and other IT assets.

Plexus created a self-service request portal on the platform to monitor and report on IT asset requests and availability to ultimately help eliminate lost items. End users are now notified when and where to collect and return loaners while the IT organization is notified of provisioning requirements needed before the asset is deployed. A calendar allows IT to track schedule conflicts, resource shortages and overdue items.

Finalist -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota -- Efficient change management lifecycle application
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota developed an advanced change management lifecycle process designed to simplify and reduce touch points within the request for change (RFC) process. As a result, the team has been able to reassign 50 percent of its change coordinator resources to new positions in the organization. About 5,000 RFCs have been efficiently created in seven months with positive feedback from requesters.

Finalist -- Progress Energy -- Requirements management application
Progress Energy transitioned numerous modules from their legacy ITSM tool to the platform and needed to manage thousands of project requirements. The team created a requirements management application that provides everything from requirements prioritization and approval process management, to documentation of use cases, test results and user acceptance. The tool has been a tremendous success for several groups involved including project managers, business analysts and developers.

Rob Luddy, VP of worldwide sales and marketing, said, " is fortunate to have one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing IT user communities in the world. Customer input has consistently driven inspiration for new functionality and applications. The Innovation of the Year award simply allows us to recognize a few of our champions for their ingenuity."

Shared services and business process automation built into the PaaS provide customers with easily extendable business request and task management. The majority of customers use the PaaS to automate various non-IT processes such as HR, facilities, billing, finance, quality control, legal case documentation, telecom resourcing, conference and event management, and others. customers automate business processes faster by using shared services such as a service catalog to publish and capture business requests, a graphical workflow engine to orchestrate request and task fulfillment, and a CMDB to manage business services, assets and their relationships.

A live instance of the application is always available at (no registration required). To see a recorded demonstration and overview of the Spring 2010 release (coming June 4, 2010), please register for the virtual conference.
