Servus Credit Union Celebrates International Credit Union Day With $25,000 Donation to Alberta's United Way

EDMONTON, AB--(Marketwired - October 21, 2016) - Yesterday was International Credit Union Day, and Servus Credit Union celebrated the occasion in the spirit of this year's theme, "The Authentic Difference".

Servus pledged to donate 5% of all in-branch cash deposits made on Credit Union Day, up to $25,000, to Alberta's United Way. The credit union's members reacted with enthusiasm, so this maximum goal was reached.

Servus branches all over Alberta also celebrated in their own ways, with some offering CU Day cakes to members, while others dressed in ethnic costumes to highlight the international nature of the credit union community.

"Our credit union has deep ties to Alberta communities, so we wanted to celebrate the uniqueness of credit unions in a way that also highlights our connection with our province and our commitment to helping Albertans," said Servus Credit Union President and CEO Garth Warner. International Credit Union Day is an initiative of the World Council of Credit Unions and is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history and to promote its achievements.
