BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Dec 4, 2013) - New research by Seven Step RPO, a leading provider of recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) services, revealed that corporations continue to risk their employment brands to careless online application practices. The "Seven Step RPO Talent Acquisition Survey: Four Mistakes That Talent Acquisition Departments Make That Drive Thousands of Candidates Away," includes insight from 2,512 unique U.S.-based candidates about their experience with online job applications. "The 'resume black hole' has become a household phrase and our research shows that careless online application practices are to blame," said Paul Harty, President, Seven Step RPO. Those that ignore candidate preferences risk losing top talent and tarnishing their employment brands."
Seven Step's research set out to determine exactly how candidates feel about employers' automated application practices. Notable findings include:
- A full 25 percent of candidates report never hearing back from employers after submitting an online application.
- A full two-thirds of candidates are not asked to join a prospective employer's talent community.
- Nearly one-third of candidates (30.4 percent) are not willing to spend more than 15 minutes filling out an online job application.
- Nearly half of all candidates (41.8 percent) seek out a direct HR contact, even after applying for a job online.

Seven Step commissioned Google Consumer Surveys to collect responses from a representative sample of 2,512 respondents (a minimum of 500 unique responses per question). Survey participants were asked to answer a screening question to confirm that they had applied for a job directly through an employer's website and then were asked to answer one additional randomly-selected survey question regarding their application experience. Since survey questions included a "no response" option, percentages included in this report may not add up to 100. All survey participants were based in the U.S., ranging in age, gender, income levels, and geographic location.
