Seven WhiteHat Security Threat Research Center Engineers Added to Google's Security Hall of Fame

Expert Security Team Demonstrates the Strength of WhiteHat Sentinel on One of the Highest Profile Online Properties in the World

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 27, 2011) - WhiteHat Security, the leading provider of website risk management solutions, today announced that seven members of WhiteHat's Threat Research Center (TRC) have been inducted into the Google Security Hall of Fame. The inductees were recognized for their contributions to finding and reporting previously unknown vulnerabilities in Google's web properties as part of Google's website bug bounty program.

Google expanded its bug bounty program to allow anyone to test its websites, confidentially report their findings, and be rewarded for high severity submissions. Using WhiteHat Sentinel, TRC members assessed many of Google's online properties and returned accurate, previously unidentified vulnerability information in major applications not discovered by any other participants.

The program has been a rousing success for Google, security researchers, and most importantly -- Google users. When Google made the program results public, WhiteHat had contributed significantly to making Google's sites more secure. The scale and efficiency of the WhiteHat Sentinel platform allowed the WhiteHat TRC team to identify and verify vulnerabilities on multiple websites concurrently, resulting in more WhiteHat TRC members being acknowledged than any other participating organization. Collectively, they discovered numerous high-severity vulnerabilities and currently occupy seven spots in the Google Security Hall of Fame.

"From day one, WhiteHat Sentinel was designed to assess thousands of the largest and most sophisticated websites with unmatched efficiency," said WhiteHat Security CTO Jeremiah Grossman. "Our Threat Research Center continues to prove how valuable the combination of Software-as-a-Service technology, modern vulnerability assessment processes, and experience can be in identifying security flaws, even in the most secure websites, including Google's. I'm extremely proud of the team."

The inductees from WhiteHat's Threat Research Center include:

  • Justin Barron
  • Jason Calvert
  • Michael Cottingham
  • Matt Evans
  • Kyle Osborn
  • Phillip Purviance
  • Josh Tantoy
