Seventh Los Angeles Bar Method Opens 2/27

Rapid Expansion Includes Mexican Spa Program and Studios in New York City and Miami

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - February 23, 2010) -  The Bar Method will add its 7th Los Angeles facility on February 27 when it opens its doors in Marina del Rey. Other LA County studios include West LA, West Hollywood, Burbank, Pasadena, Hermosa Beach, and Agoura Hills. The Bar Method has expanded rapidly since it opened its flagship studio in San Francisco in 2001 and now boasts more than 30 studios, most of them franchises, across the nation. Other cities soon to open Bar Method facilities include Manhattan, Portland, St. Louis, and Miami.

At the Marinia del Rey launch, Bar Method Founder Burr Leonard is slated to teach classes along with National Trainer and Evaluator Catherine Wendel, who is co-owner of three Chicago area studios. Leonard also kicked off the Bar Method intensive program, which began on 2/21 at world famous fitness resort and spa Rancho La Puerta, winner's award for "Favorite Spa in North America."

The Marina del Rey location features a large studio with 20 foot high ceilings, maple bars, 8 foot mirrors, wall sconces, and deeply padded carpeting. It is located on Washington Blvd and Glencoe Ave across from Costco. There is free parking on premise. In addition to serving Marina del Rey, this exercise studio will be a meeting point for people in nearby cities like Venice, Santa Monica, and Playa del Rey. For more information, visit

The new studio is owned by Jenny Lind, Raissa Gerona, and Vera Tam. Long-time Bar Method students who then became teachers, they are true believers in the power and efficacy of The Bar Method workout. About her love for The Bar Method, Lind says, "The Bar Method worked liked nothing else did. It brought back the tone and strength I had when I was dancing every day."

The Bar Method has garnered much attention and praise: The New York Times wrote "Bar Butt has entered the local dialect," EXTRA called it "The best of the best when it comes to star workouts," The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, "The Bar is the new Pilates," and Glamour dubbed it, "The Hollywood exercise trend of the moment." People's cover article on Drew Barrymore's new body explained "Barrymore has become a devout follower of the ballet-influenced Bar Method..." Other celebrities who attend include Eve, Zooey Deschanel, Kelly Osbourne, Ricki Lake, Anna Pacquin, Denise Richards, Lisa Rinna, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

ABOUT THE BAR METHOD: The Bar Method integrates the fat burning format of interval training, the muscle shaping technique of isometrics, the elongating principles of dance conditioning, and the science of physical therapy to create a revolutionary new workout that quickly and safely reshapes your entire body. It sculpts the physique including carved muscles, lifted seats, flatter abs, highly defined arms, and not only greater but elongated muscle mass. Linking muscle mass to good health and longevity, especially in its propensity to fight cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, has become one of today's key fitness trends just as The Bar Method becomes a significant player on the national stage.
