Seventy Five Percent of Stanford's 50,000-Seat Stadium Accounted For

"Select Your Seat" Sale Scheduled September 10

STANFORD, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 22, 2006 --Since launching 2006 football season ticket sales on January 30, Stanford Athletics has seen its season ticket sales climb over the past six months. Today, 75 percent of the new 50,000-seat Stanford Stadium or approximately 37,600 seats are accounted for.

In terms of season ticket sales, to date sales are up 136 percent over the same time last year. A year ago at this time, season tickets were at approximately 10,800 compared to today's 25,500. Total season ticket sales in 2005 were 13,700.

Special seating areas, including the Alumni and Family Plan sections were expanded due to popular demand, and since then have sold out. Sideline seats located between the 30-yard lines were the first to go. Limited sideline and corner seats are still available, as well as seats in the south end zone.

With limited seats available for individual games and walk-ups, fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets while they last.

"The new stadium has generated a lot of excitement," said Robert Bowlsby, the Jaquish and Kenninger Director of Athletics. "Fans are eager for the football season to begin and to see the Cardinal play in their new home. While season ticket sales continue, we can anticipate sell out crowds for both the Navy and USC games."

Public Can Test Select Seats and Purchase on the Spot

To assist fans with their purchase decision, Stanford Athletics will hold a "Select Your Seat Sale" prior to the September 16 grand opening. The "Select Your Seat" event, scheduled for Sunday, September 10 from 10am-3pm, will give the general public an exclusive opportunity to see exact seat locations still available for season ticket purchase. Fans can sit in the various seats available and purchase the ones they like best on the spot.

The purpose of the "Select Your Seat" event is to create excitement among new fans and sell the limited season tickets still available before the grand opening. No appointment is necessary to attend the one-day event.
