Sexually Exploited Men Find Voice in New Report

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 14, 2009) - A report delving into the world of male prostitution and exploitation across Western Canada was officially released today. Under the Radar: The Sexual Exploitation of Young Men - Western Canadian Edition is a cumulative report of studies conducted in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba from 2005 to 2008.

"This report gave the men a voice and they have put forward ideas on how programs can be more inclusive," said Dr. Sue McIntyre, the report's author, "It is the intention that this report will better equip service providers to assist young men in order to help them live safe, healthy, meaningful lives."

The cumulative report released today compares similarities and differences amongst the Western provinces. The research also identifies the types of supports required by this unique population that lives "under the radar". The report, which was supported by the four provincial governments, will be made available to the community with the hope that programs will be tailored to meet the needs of these young men.
