The feature film Sharkwater, won best HD Feature at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival. A $10,000 prize was awarded and presented by HD Net. Sharkwater has won 11 major awards to date including Best Documentary, People's Choice, Best of the Fest from top festivals around the world - as well as "Canada's Top Ten" from the Toronto International Film Festival Group.

The highly anticipated film opened in theatres March 23rd in Canada, beating the opening box office of Canada's top grossing documentaries Bowling for Columbine and The Corporation as well as the international documentaries, March of the Penguins and An Inconvenient Truth.

Sharkwater follows filmmaker and biologist Rob Stewart through 15 countries documenting the negative impacts of shark finning. A report published by Dalhousie University researchers on March 29th has confirmed what Sharkwater has recently brought to light: sharks are being overfished internationally, disturbing the oceans' ecosystems as a direct result.

"I am pleased the importance of saving sharks is starting to get the attention it needs," said Stewart.

"This report supports Sharkwater's message that keeping sharks alive is critical to sustaining life in the oceans and on Earth."

See Sharkwater and see first-hand what Dalhousie's study just confirmed.
