Sharp Adopts Red Bend's vCurrent® Mobile for the 812SH Mobile Phone

TOKYO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 5, 2007 -- Red Bend Software Japan KK (Red Bend; located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiro Abe), the market leader in Mobile Software Management and Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updating solutions for mobile devices, today announced that Sharp Corporation (located in Osaka City, representing director company president Machida Katsuhiko) has adopted Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile FOTA solution for the SoftBank 812SH mobile phone. This is the eighth mobile phone from Sharp to include Red Bend's FOTA software for providing over-the-air firmware updates.

Using Red Bend's FOTA solution, Sharp is enabling SoftBank to quickly, securely and reliably provide software improvements to mobile phones already in the hands of consumers. The 812SH, which went on sale February 10, has attracted a lot of attention in Japan with its rich variety of 20 PANTONE® colors and advanced software functions. Features include an easy-to-see 2.4 inch QVGA mobile ASV liquid crystal display, unique arc-ridge keys that are easy to operate, and an "instant mail read" function that allows consumers to check the body of a text message without having to open up the phone.

"Since opening our Japan office in October 2005, Red Bend has achieved support from key customers such as Sharp, NEC and JRC -- creating significant momentum for us in the competitive and sophisticated Japanese mobile market," said Kazuhiro Abe, President of Red Bend Software Japan KK. "Mobile phone manufacturers and operators in Japan and around the world are adopting Red Bend's over-the-air mobile software management solutions because they recognize the importance of enhancing the mobile user experience by keeping phones up-to-date with the latest software functions."

Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile is currently available in the SoftBank 810SH, 811SH, 910SH and 911SH models from Sharp, the NEC 705N, and Japan Radio Company's (JRC) latest PHS phones, the WX220J and WX321J models. Around the world, Red Bend's patented FOTA solution has been integrated into more than 60 mobile phone models used by 80 million consumers. vCurrent Mobile features a failsafe function that allows an update to be completed safely even if power to the phone is interrupted during the update process. Red Bend's products support standards from the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Device Management (DM) group, and are interoperable with OMA DM-based servers, ensuring ease-of-integration for mobile service providers.
