Shaw Communications Named National Partner of the Canada Games

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 30, 2015) - The Canada Games have announced Shaw Communications Inc. as their newest long-term National Partner.

As Canada's leading network and content experience company, Shaw has entered into a three-Games National Partnership with the Canada Games Council. The partnership will see Shaw become the Official Telecommunications Provider and a major partner for the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C., the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, Man., and the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta.

"We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Shaw, a tremendous leader in telecommunications who provide the highest quality consumer, business and content product offerings," says Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council. "With Shaw as the Official Telecommunications Provider of the Canada Games, the next three sets of Canada Games will consistently have elite level service."

Shaw will provide cash and in-kind support, and will leverage its leading Internet and telecommunications services to keep The Canada Games connected. Shaw will also provide spectators and athletes with complementary guest access to its Shaw Go WiFi network throughout the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George. Shaw Go WiFi is Canada's largest WiFi network, with over 55,000 hotspots from Victoria to Sault Ste. Marie.

"Over the space of two weeks, thousands of athletes, families and fans will come to Prince George to enjoy the competition and the excitement of The 2015 Canada Winter Games," says Katherine Emberly, Vice President, Operations, Shaw Communications Inc. "We are proud to work with the organizers to deliver the power of our superior broadband network and our industry leading carrier-grade WiFi service to ensure everyone can stay connected."

The announcement comes at an important time when the Canada Games are celebrating individual Games partners, but are also continuing to leverage long-term sponsorships and multiple Games partnerships. With this announcement, the roster of National Partners increases to thirteen. With the 2015 Canada Games Opening Ceremonies to start the 2015 Canada Games in Prince George BC on February 13th, national partners will enjoy the continuity of national rights and benefits in addition to the individual Canada Games rights and benefits.

"The partnership with Shaw has already resulted in substantial infrastructure upgrades to our region," says Stuart Ballantyne, CEO of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. "These upgrades increase Prince George's ability to host large-scale events in the future, while improving the business services of today."
