EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - April 25, 2014) - In celebration of Earth Day week, the Shaw Conference Centre has released its 2013 Sustainability Report Card. This annual benchmarking initiative allows the convention centre to track its commitment to sustainability and its contribution to Edmonton's established reputation as an environmental leader.
Report highlights include:
"This report card demonstrates that we can maintain sustainable best practices even in years when our utility costs increase due to the growing number of events we host," says Cliff Higuchi, vice-president and general manager of the Shaw Conference Centre. "We are one of the few convention centres with a dedicated sustainability coordinator who facilitates a comprehensive program that assists our clients with green meetings and reduces our environmental impact as a facility."
The Sustainability Report Card is a component of "Simple Steps," an initiative launched in 2008 by the Shaw Conference Centre to encourage participation in environmentally and socially sustainable practices throughout the facility. Event clients can access green meeting guides, waste calculation reports, locally sourced menus, green itineraries and best practices advice to help plan an environmentally responsible convention, meeting or event.
