Shaw Conference Centre Welcomes Edmonton's Homeless

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2010) - Media are invited to attend the fifth Homeless Connect Edmonton. Providing free services Homeless Connect assists individuals who are homeless or at-risk-of-becoming-homeless. Homeless Connect is a community event bringing together agencies, businesses and volunteers, on one day and at one location.

Date: Sunday, October 17, 2010

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Location: Halls A, B & C, Shaw Conference Centre

Edmonton Transit Services will offer free rides to guests and volunteers, to and from the event. Guests have access to services such as haircuts, dentistry, eye-care, counseling, pre-natal support, laundry, employment services and housing information. Every guest receives a care package which includes personal care products.

The following event organizers will be available for interviews:

  • Susan McGee, Executive Director of Homeward Trust
  • Homeless Connect Edmonton co-chairs, Dave McNaughton, Income Support Specialist for Regional Support Services and
  • Joanne Currie, Director of Financial Stability and Independence for United Way of the Alberta Capital Region

Media are instructed to go to the information table when they arrive. There may also be opportunities for media to shadow guests and volunteers. If interested, please inquire at the media table.

Homeless Connect Edmonton is organized by volunteer committees that provide direction and support for the event. Homeward Trust Edmonton, a not-for-profit organization providing leadership and resources towards ending homelessness, coordinates the overall work plan and ensures the event aligns with related Edmonton initiatives.
