Shaw Go WiFi Guest Network Opened for All Residents and Visitors to Calgary During Downtown Power Outage

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Oct. 12, 2014) - Shaw Communications Inc. (TSX:SJR.B)(NYSE:SJR) today said that all Calgary residents and visitors will have access to its Shaw Go WiFi Guest Network to help people stay connected during the power outage affecting the downtown core.

As City of Calgary officials working to restore power to affected areas, all Calgarians will be given full guest access to the thousands of Shaw Go WiFi access points in the city. This connection will give residents access to timely news and information, and help them stay in touch with friends and loved ones.

Shaw Internet customers already have access to the Shaw Go WiFi service as part of their subscription. People who do not subscribe to Shaw Internet service can access Shaw Go WiFi Guest Network by searching for available WiFi connections on their devices, and selecting 'ShawGuest' from the list of available options. A full list of locations is available at or by downloading the Shaw Go WiFi Finder App.

"We recognize that all residents and visitors downtown, including Shaw customers and employees, have been affected by this outage," said Ron McKenzie, vice-president of operations, Shaw Communications. "We are working closely with the City of Calgary to restore Shaw services as quickly as possible while also doing what we can to support the Calgary community during the power outage."

In addition, Shaw is working with city officials to set up WiFi, phone lines and television service at the community information centre that has been set up at the Mewata Armoury at 801 11 Street SW in Calgary.

Shaw is also working to set up WiFi access points at temporary locations adjacent to the affected downtown area at suitable locations. More information regarding these specific locations will be made available at as soon as these locations come online later this afternoon. Shaw employees will also be volunteering onsite at these locations, providing access to charging stations for cell phones and mobile devices.
