Shaw Switches Off in Support of Earth Hour 2012

Everyday sustainable business practices earn recognition for Shaw

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 30, 2012) - It's one hour that makes a big difference and sends an equally big message. Shaw Communications (TSX:SJR.B) (NYSE:SJR) is proud to participate in Earth Hour for the fifth year in a row, doing its part to raise awareness and reduce its environmental footprint through ongoing sustainable business practices.

Each year, Shaw participates in Earth Hour by shutting off all non-essential lights and signs in its buildings across Canada. By performing this simple action during Earth Hour over the last five years, Shaw will have reduced an estimated 1,500 pounds of carbon emissions after Earth Hour 2012.

On the eve of Earth Hour, Shaw is also excited to announce the recent LEED® Silver certification of Shaw Campus 3636 building by the Canada Green Building Council. LEED® certification is awarded to buildings based on five key areas: sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Located in Calgary, the 3636 Campus building scored its highest marks in the areas of water efficiency, reducing the amount of water used in this building by 45 percent - the equivalent of 900,000 litres of water annually.

Two additional Shaw buildings have been recognized by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). Shaw Tower in Vancouver and Shaw Barlow in Calgary have been awarded BOMA BESt certification for their achievements above and beyond industry best practices in sustainable and environmentally responsible building management.

"Shaw is excited to participate in Earth Hour and help send a message about sustainable business practices." said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications Inc. "From responsible building and renovation practices, to reducing our environmental impact on the earth through recycling and eco-friendly energy use, Shaw demonstrates its commitment to the environment in all aspects of its business."

Shaw's dedication to protecting the environment extends beyond Earth Hour. Across Canada, Shaw buildings are reducing their impact on the environment through employee engagement initiatives, recycling programs and sustainable energy usage. Using wind energy in many of Shaw's buildings will prevent an incredible 6,285 tons of carbon emissions from entering our atmosphere this year.
