Shear Wind Pursues Renewable Energy RFP With Nova Scotia Power

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA AND CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - April 18, 2007) - Mike Magnus, President & CEO of Shear Wind Inc. ("Shear Wind") (TSX VENTURE:SWX) is pleased to announce Shear Wind's intent to submit proposals to supply power to Nova Scotia Power. This is in response to their March 2007 Request for Proposals (RFP).

Nova Scotia Power released its RFP for renewable energy products, including wind, on March 12th, 2007. The solicitation seeks to add 130 MW of additional renewable energy by the end of 2009. (See:

Shear Wind's intention is to submit proposals for wind energy generation at their site in Nova Scotia where the wind resource has been monitored and researched for some time. Ian Tillard, COO, states "We are very excited about seeing this project come together, as we believe our site to have a significant wind resource, resulting in a very favorable capacity factor. The location is ideally situated on a land base with constructability of up to a 100MW potential. We have put together an exceptional team to move forward and focus on responding to the RFP."

Shear Wind Inc. has engaged Hatch Energy to provide their expertise in assisting with the proposal submission and eventually, project management. Hatch Energy has significant experience in the wind industry across Canada.

Phoenix Engineering Inc., a leading wind energy firm specializing in wind energy assessment and monitoring, and wind farm design, is providing expertise in assessing the project's wind resource and turbine layout.

Other partners include: Strumm Engineering Associates, who have been involved in significant projects in N.S. and P.E.I., are providing the electrical expertise for the RFP; and Northumberland Windfield (CEDIF) a partner dedicated to raising community based funds to promote wind energy development in the Province of Nova Scotia.
