Sherpa Software Bucks Economy, Adds 300 New Customers Since June

Email Management Leader Sprints Past 2,000-Customer Milestone, as Large and Mid-Market Clients Seek Greater Control of Corporate Data

PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwire - December 16, 2008) - Sherpa Software, a leading e-discovery and archiving software company, today announced that demand for its email management system solutions has increased sharply over the past several months. Even as the economy slowed, Sherpa added more than 300 new clients since June, as businesses of all sizes and across industries struggle to gain control of data residing in company emails.

Sherpa's award-winning solutions for IBM Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange connect finance, legal, IT and other stakeholders to current and archived content across multiple locations, including email, PST files, network files and desktops. Sherpa products can be deployed in minutes and require zero training, enabling businesses to respond rapidly to legal and compliance issues, and helping to enforce company policies.

"Email management is protection for businesses confronting exposure to litigation and data compliance requirements," said Kevin Ogrodnik, president, Sherpa Software. "Increasingly strict regulations and market failures have opened the door to corporate fears regarding the location and accessibility of valuable company data. We help businesses overcome these concerns by making it easier to store, search and retrieve email content. By providing clients with the tools they need to more effectively manage email, they are able to successfully navigate key challenges facing their businesses. We are very proud to have helped 2,000-plus companies over 10 years achieve success in email management."

Current economic uncertainty will continue to squeeze IT budgets in 2009, according to Gartner, but that does not mean the government is going to reduce pressure on companies to meet new compliance requests or give them more time to satisfy them. According to analyst firm DCIG, the number of enforcement actions the SEC is carrying out is increasing, and Congress is promising to pass even more regulations in 2009. DCIG adds that companies will need to disclose much more information than ever before. Since more corporate data is in electronic form, especially in the form of email, these new regulations will increase the burden on IT to effectively store and discover information. Companies will need to obtain the appropriate expertise and tools to respond to these new challenges.

Sherpa customers added since June span vertical markets, but were highlighted by companies in the legal, financial services, manufacturing and energy categories. Sherpa's email management system, e-discovery and compliance products for both Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange were particularly popular in Q3. Representative new customers include Banker Steel Company, the City of Westlake, Ohio, Alliance Coal, LLC, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

"Sherpa's e-discovery solution enabled us to save in excess of $9,000 in forensic and legal fees, and we are still expanding our use of the product," said Mark Gainer, director of information technology at Banker Steel Company. "Beyond the bottom-line cost savings, we have been thrilled by the knowledge and professionalism of Sherpa's support staff, which has helped us to maximize the effectiveness of their solution. The low cost and high quality of the people and product have made our investment in Sherpa a great one."

"Due to the critical nature of our business, we needed a PST management solution that was powerful, as well as a vendor that would be highly responsive," said Uriah Robins, senior network administrator at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. "I'm very pleased to say our engagement with Sherpa has been a success on both levels. Their team has been incredibly supportive and requests for help are responded to almost immediately. Sherpa has the right combination of features, support and usability."
