Shine On: Good Housekeeping Honors Christy Turlington Burns, Michelle Rhee, Indra Nooyi and Six Other Visionary Women for Their Passion to Change the World

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - April 6, 2011) - On Tuesday, April 12, Good Housekeeping salutes nine extraordinary women whose combination of intelligence, imagination and nerve is changing women's lives forever at "Shine On," a special one-night-only theatrical event at Radio City Music Hall with special appearances by two-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, three-time Grammy Award winner Trisha Yearwood in her first New York City performance in five years and Academy Award winner Goldie Hawn. Highlights of the evening will include a special tribute to Elizabeth Taylor by business partner and friend Kathy Ireland and an opening performance by Grammy Award-winner Eve, who wrote an original song for the occasion. The star-studded event benefits the National Women's History Museum in Washington, D.C., which is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the diverse historic contributions of women. Tickets for the one-night-only show are available for $79.50 and $54.50. Ticket information is available at www.goodhousekeeping.com/shine-on.

Good Housekeeping's 2011 Shine On Awards honorees are:

  • The Advocate: Christy Turlington Burns - model and activist, Turlington Burns is recognized for her tireless campaign for maternal health around the globe.
  • The Game Changer: Michelle Rhee - former chancellor of the Washington, DC public schools and founder/CEO of StudentsFirst, Rhee is honored for her passion and advocacy work to fight for education reform.
  • The Pioneer: Elizabeth Blackburn - Nobel Prize winner, whose groundbreaking research may one day be the key to discovering a cure for cancer.
  • The Powerhouse: Indra Nooyi - chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, Nooyi is celebrated for her glass-ceiling-breaking achievements that are inspiring the next generation of businesswomen.
  • The Innovators: Jessica Lin, Jessica Matthews, Julia Silverman and Hemali Thakkar - Harvard undergraduates and inventors of the sOccket ball, these woman are honored for their creativity and innovation, which turns a simple game -- kicking a soccer ball - into three hours of usable energy.
  • The Visionary: Lisa Switkin - associate partner at James Corner Field Operations, Switkin's environmentally-focused vision created New York City's High Line, a dynamic park with more than 200 plants that was transformed from a stretch of abandoned elevated train tracks.

Sponsored by Maybelline New York and Window World, "Shine On" will be directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, a Tony Award nominee for Ragtime and the first woman to direct a major musical produced by The Kennedy Center, and will be written by Frank Santopadre, who has created material for personalities including Bill Murray, Matt Lauer, and Donald Trump.
