Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians Celebrates Earth Day

SHINGLE SPRINGS, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 26, 2013) - The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians Tribal Community celebrated Earth Day on Saturday, April 20.

The annual celebration highlights the Tribe's cultural dedication and commitment to protecting our environment.

The family-friendly day focused on helping children understand that they share in the duty of caring for the earth. They enjoyed stories about weather systems, rocks, fossils and more. Earth-friendly activities were highlighted by planting in the children's garden, separated from the main garden by tires recycled from the reservation. The children painted the tires and then planted inside them.

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians is a federally recognized tribe located on 160 acres in El Dorado County and operates Red Hawk Casino.
