Shopbot.ca-Holidays 2010: A Season for Gadgets?

Shopbot Presents What's Hype and What's Hot for This Year's Holiday Season

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 9, 2010) - As the holidays quickly approach, it is no surprise that online shopping in Canada continues to increase, with over half of the population reporting buying goods online. According to Canada's premier shopping engine, Shopbot.ca, high tech items remain on the top of the best sellers list this season.

Shopbot, Canada's largest online price comparison website, released results of their user survey this week, which show what is hype and what is hot for the 2010 holidays in Canada. Tablet computers and televisions are reported to be some of the most searched for products this year.

"Technology continues to amaze us with even more powerful and more portable devices, and the Canadians coming to Shopbot are very interested in these high tech products," says Shopbot national sales director, Ashley Bienvenu.

"The holidays have seemed to come early this year, and we're already seeing well over 50,000 unique visitors coming through our site every day here in Canada. It is sure to bode well for the upcoming weeks."

According to Shopbot users, tablet computers will remain a hit. While the Apple iPad remains one of the most talked about tablets on the market, it appears to have some big competition on its way.

"Our users are excited about the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Blackberry Playbook, although neither has been released yet," states Ms. Bienvenu, "The only problem is they don't know when they can get their hands on them or how much they are going to cost."

Shopbot statistics show that Canadians are ready to skip the hype on these items this year. One of the most popular tablet computers on the website is the Asus EEE PC T91MT.

According to the same survey, LCD and Plasma TVs are also expected as best sellers for this year's holiday season, with Shopbot users citing Samsung, Sony and Panasonic 3D televisions as the hype products this year.

"While 3D TV may be the wave of the future, it hasn't quite made its way into living rooms across Canada. Our users find themselves deciding between the new hype products or better deals on last year's models."

The survey show that Shopbot buyers are headed for the Sony KDL-46EX500, citing its attractive design, high quality, and reasonable price as the principal reasons for their purchase.

While there are quite a few hype products available this year, Shopbot also shows that certain, more traditional high tech items always remain best sellers, with 55% of users reporting digital cameras and MP3 players as top buys for the holidays.
