SHOP.COM Survey on The Royal Wedding Came up Trumps With Westminster Abbey as The Venue of Choice

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 19, 2011) - The forthcoming Royal Wedding at Westminster Abbey is bound to attract a huge amount of interest worldwide and particularly in the UK so it was no surprise that the SHOP.COM customer survey generated a larger than expected response - there's little doubt that this is the 'wedding of the decade', as it's already being called.

Asked to decide between St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle as the chosen venue, over 52% picked the right spot. Dating from the 10th Century, Westminster Abbey has seen the coronations of 38 sovereigns and both the Queen and the Queen Mother were married there.

46.7% will not be travelling to London for April 29th and may even take the extreme step of leaving the country, with just 7.6% considering planning a family holiday around the Royal Wedding in London. This will be a four day holiday ending in the Spring Bank Holiday on May 2nd so there's plenty of time to escape or be part of the enormous crowd expected to be in London over the weekend.

On the subject of the British Monarchy, 40% felt that Prince Charles should be the next King, while 34% would look for someone younger. 59% gave the marriage a high chance of surviving the course and 62% expect new heirs to the throne within three years. 68% believe that Africa will be the honeymoon destination, as it is where Will proposed to Kate (however we're not expecting advance information on that one). 67% unsurprisingly expect Prince Harry to be the best man.

It goes without saying that there will be huge celebrations everywhere on the day and the survey discovered that almost 50% of the respondents expect to be celebrating too although 5% asked the question 'who are Will and Kate?' – It is hard to imagine who they could possibly be. This is one you won't be able to miss even if you want to.
